When the day comes to leave, it really is best that the day is cold, wet, sleety and generally as unpleasant as possible.
It’s been a rough couple of days as the reality that we are really, really, genuinely going to do this so a day that’s not trying to tease us as we go is much appreciated.
After a lot of searching over the past 3 months we eventually ended up buying one way flights to France on Thai Airways. We used fly365.com which gave rates a couple of hundred dollars less than the others including Thais own booking system. There’s a few poor reviews online about fly365 but we found it delivered exactly as stated and there were no catches that popped up. We spent $3700 on one way flights for all of us from Auckland to Charles de Gaulle.
The flights are great, Tom is pinned in his seat with the TV going non stop. Everyones eyes are bugging out by the time we hit tropical Bangkok. Short layover then its back in to the movies for another 12 hours.
Landing in to Paris is greatly anticipated. Nobody is really prepped for this level of jetlag but what can you do. We manage to stumble our way on to the metro and head out towards our air bnb in Batignolles. Eventually after a mini treasure hunt that was sorely not needed we get the keys and head up the 5 floors to our little apartment. It’s very french, and very good. I don’t think we could have faced camping at this point. Now the games start as it’s 4 in the afternoon and we need to stay awake as long as possible to try and get in sync. It’s a gallicly grim time for us all.
