The weather is closing in a bit and we are still just on our way to becoming Camino fit.
Plus Alissa is currently walking in socks & Tevas due to horrendous blisters so it’s not going to work in the rain. We decide to take a little rest day and catch up on web based admin.
We head out of our gîte in the middle of town and walk to a campground on the edge of St Alban where they have a covered swimming pool. Everyone gets pumped up for our rain day.
It doesn’t last long. For the first time in our journey we run into the stereotypical surly French service. The owners were not happy to see us or our little tents. After demanding we set up in the rain (no sheltering undercover for a break in the weather) and absolutely no picnics (we already have our lunch supplies) on their undercover terrace.
Oh well. We crowd onto the single park bench in the rain as we assemble our sandwiches. Laugh it off, follow their lame rules and relax for the day. After a brief swim in the cold pool we spend far too long under the hot showers. Then Alissa spends most of her time editing photos, I chase Tom and the boys chase each other. Everyone scoffs far too many hot fries. Eventually the sun returns.
We got to take it easy and it didn’t rain on us as we walked. I can ignore rude french ladies for that. Good exchange.
