Another good early day on the back of a cold night. Its early autumn now and its starting to make its presence known.
A short trip back south from Vers to rejoin the track to Cahors. The climb back up doesn’t seem too bad with fresh legs.
Vers is an “living” town compared to some of the much, much quieter ones previously so there’s petanque games going, lots of shops and a good epicerie and little boulangerie. Makes it easy to prep for the day ahead.
After more hilltop up and down tracks, the GR 36 drops down to the river Lot and follows the towpath towards Cahors. Makes for easy travel.
Once you’ve had an easy run you arrive at a choice, following GR36 into the hills for another 6 km or so taking the GR36 variant that just continues along the nice flat river. Only a maniac or the criminally misinformed would head back in to the hills, surely.
Cahors is the first “big” city we’ve come to I guess. Amazing massive cathedral and old quarter of town with buildings back to the 13th century. Genuinely beautiful. Because the campground is waaaay out of town we end up organising a stay at a little gite in the middle of town with the very VERY generous Sophie who proceeds to accommodate our hefty tribe and incredibly washes and hangs out our filthy old clothes. She is a real one.
