Staying with Sophie in town has spoiled us with her proper beds and nice temperatures. It takes a mammoth effort to get out of bed and get going for the day. She makes us a little breakfast of cake and hot chocolate which is devoured readily.
It’s a longer day today so we have to get on with it. Cahors is amazing to walk in, we exit town to the west across Pont Valentre bridge, a 13 century foot bridge with 3 defensive towers. Still amazed us, Max and I have a discussion about medieval tactics and warfare.
First trick out of Cahors is a steep climb up the rock face which is a good wake up call. The boys fang up there at high speed while I slowly trudge up with Tom on my back.
First part of the day is lots of road walking which at least means you can peel off kilometres at a good rate. Theres a little bar/epicerie in Labastide for lunch and then back off road for the second half of the day.
The heat was down for the day and Alissa managed to get new shoes in Cahors which fit much better so knocking out 23 km for the day worked out pretty well.
Tom did well for a long day too, he has a regular plethora of games and imaginary play to fall back on. We collect dog food (leaves from trees) for his four imaginary dogs that are with us (Orangina, P, Pink and Blue.) He often hosts me at his imaginary restaurant. Oak leaves are always a dragon when he gets his hands on some, the dragon flies us around. The days are good and he’s happy.
Not at a campground in Lascabanes, we’ve found a gite that lets us camp in their grounds and use the facilities. Chez Le Bouy, the owner looks after us well. As well as a snack bar which we are busting to get to once we spot the signage the last few kms. Happy days.
