A day where it all kind of fell into place. Everyone is up in the morning feeling a bit rundown. Lots of little jobs and administration was completed to get us up to date.
Alissa’s morning constitutional coffee over with Neil at Cook Islands Coffee Company meant we were recommended a trip that afternoon with Kura and Jacobo at Ariimoana Tours.
After a bit of back and forth putting together some reef shoes we headed down to the Avaavaroa Channel to have a walk out to the reef at low tide. It’s the type of thing that plays right into the wheelhouse of everyone on the trip, all of the boys love poking around at the sea life, Alissa got the opportunity to take a million photos from angles we havent been able to get before and I get to see some new beasts.
Kura and Jake are both very knowledgable about the reef and sealife there and have a great eye for darting creatures. Tom becomes enamoured with giant blue starfish, Nate gets deep into following Kura closely so he’s at the forefront of any new discoveries and Max slowly and methodically picks his way through all the shells he can find. Everyone has a great time learning in an environment that would be virtually impossible to get to without a guide. Its something that we all learned so much from and it landed in our laps. Meant to be.
We headed back to their house with the light fading where they had kindly laid out some amazing fresh fruit, showed the boys how to crack into a coconut sans tools, and even supplied us with cooked taro and rakau for dinner. It was un-freaken-believable. It was made by her grandparents who supply it as part of their business to Wigmore’s Store, seriously, go get some. Kura is an amazing person with a great idea that everyone loved. A fantastic day, such a highlight. If you get the chance go meet her, take one of her tours you won’t regret it.
