Hi there, so glad you found us! We are Mount Adventure Club family travel bloggers. We come from a little beachside town Mount Maunganui, New Zealand and we are super passionate about our family adventure holidays. We’ve been taking them all over New Zealand for years. Now it’s time to take them to the world. And of course worldschooling our kids along the way.
Are you curious about adventure holidays with kids? Worldschooling and travelling to Europe with kids? Thinking of becoming travelling homeschoolers yourself?
It has been a nagging dream to take our children out into the world for years now. The idea that the greatest school with the most valuable lessons is sitting just outside our little nuclear family comfort zone has been tugging at the corners of our conscience. So, after a little luck, a bit of planning, and an obscene amount of hard work, the time has arrived. Our travel with kids blog Mount Adventure Club was born. A place to read about our family adventure holidays and hopefully get inspired to plan your own!
There are 5 of us. Mark and Alissa are the oldest members of Mount Adventure Club and run this show. Alissa is the photographer, Mark the writer.
Max is 15. Tall and rangy, fit as a butchers dog. Starting to grow a wispy moustache. I’m genuinely excited to see how he finds the next year of constant motion, you will be able to read about it in his own words at www.traveltothemax.co.nz
The dangerously middle child is Nate. He’s 11 and firmly knows his own mind. We’ve dipped in and out of travel with him since he was very young and should find all the change to be water off a ducks back, find him here: www.wanderingthedepths.com
Tom (in his own words) is a little guy. He’s only 3. I can’t wait to see the world through his eyes as he experiences it all. Mostly driven by opportunities to eat tomato sauce.
So that’s us. Well, what are we doing? We started with a month in the Cook Islands. It was important for us to start by stepping out of our electronic guided lives to somewhere a bit slower. Lots of snorkelling, sand, hiking and biking. A month in Rarotonga, Cook Islands with a side trip to Aitutaki was like heaven on earth. We already can’t wait to get back there. Find our Rarotonga travel diary here
After we de-compressed on our South Pacific island we headed back to New Zealand to gear up for a walk on the Camino de Santiago from Le Puy en Velay (Via Podiensis) in France to Santiago de Compostella in Spain (via the Camino Frances). 1500 km with a 15, 11 & 3 year old. A real family adventure holiday! Well.. maybe not a holiday as such. Miss it already but on to the next adventure.
A month in England followed, then three months exploring India, North to South. We were loathe to leave but the visas ran out so we followed it up with some affordable (I won’t say budget) travel in the stunning Maldives, we found our favourite island that so far only seems to be discovered by the Italians. Then we headed to Nepal and geared up ready to began the Everest Base Camp trek from Salleri. A month was planned but only three days in Covid-19 meant Nepal moved to close it’s borders, so late night talks were had and sadly 9 months early we made a rush decision to head back to New Zealand to wait this thing out. So that’s the short version.
