Apparently it’s been a long, hot summer with heatwave after heatwave and today meets that standard. A hard climb out of Conques to start the day and we manage the 300m ascent out of town in a reasonable time before the heat really gets up.

Camino Day 15 – Conques rest day
Conques is a sort of preserved medieval town on the side of a forested valley. Because it’s like walking into a Game of Thrones set we decide to spend the day here before carrying on.

Another roasting french day. We manage to get going early as it’s a bit of stretch to Conques.
Tom is hitting his stride so to speak and wants to spend most of his time out of the backpack and running. When he’s tired (and sometimes he can’t admit it but it happens) he goes in the backpack for a spell. Theres some road walking on this stage which is a bit frustrating for him as there’s no way to keep a 3 year old safe on them, but there’s enough track to keep him entertained.

Everyone is up to speed today, we’re getting pretty efficient at packing down our little Rhinowolf camping set up, so we set a lofty goal of getting to Espalion by the end of the day.

Up at our gite at a reasonable time for a change we head out with a pain au chocolate for breakfast to eat on the way. The boulangerie in Nasbinals is very good so it’s not a bad way to start at all.

We wake up to the sound of a braying donkey and cowbells in our little corner of Finieyrols. Alissa is still feeling a bit off so we head to Nasbinals for a meal and a gite.
