Up at our gite at a reasonable time for a change we head out with a pain au chocolate for breakfast to eat on the way. The boulangerie in Nasbinals is very good so it’s not a bad way to start at all.
The path leads us up again on stock tracks through highland farms to a high point near Aubrac. The scenery is so good, it makes the walking easy. It’s a hot day and it’s good we left early to make the most of the slightly cooler part of the day.
The cows in the paddocks we pass through are all friendly, Tom takes a great interest in trying to feed them bread, they are uninterested unfortunately.
Aubrac comes quickly and it’s a neat little town, lots of restaurants and an amazing square to sit in the shade and recover. Alissa has a coffee and the boys take a break for a bit. It’s a pretty, tidy, wealthy town.
From Aubrac it’s a great bit of walking (as long as you have a sure foot) first up through a farm and then down green tree lined tunnels to pop out at St Chely dAubrac. Anything rocky, steep and somewhat challenging is all it takes for Tom to want to get a run in too. His favourite bit of track.
The municipal campground in St Chely is thankfully right in town, cheap, clean and an easy walk to the Epicerie and restaurants/bars. Unlike most places we’ve stayed, who have their own stamp, in St Chely there’s a women who receives every pilgrim to the town and stamps their credential. Amazing.
