Little bit longer today as we plan ahead to get enough kilometres to reach Aire sur l’Adour in a reasonable amount of time. Hot and humid but just rolling through the vineyards mostly. After 7kms we reach Lamothe and a buzzing little snack bar which we gratefully stop at.
From Lamothe to Eauze the chemin follows an abandoned train line so it’s dead flat, straight and shaded almost all the way. Fastest 7 km we’ve ever done I think. Through Eauze and out to a little gite in Peyrot for the night. Happy days.
Max has been feeling ill all day but pushes himself on. He feels warm and we take a decent break in Eauze for him to rest and fill him up on sweet sugary drinks that are normally off the menu. I didn’t think he would be able to push on but he shows a lot of grit and gets it done. I’m not sure he would’ve have attempted it at the start of the trip but he’s really grown. We are proud of him but better than that he’s quite proud of himself.
Peyrot isn’t really a town, more of a crossroads. We end up at a little eco-friendly gite called Le Chalet du Bonheur run by a young couple of ex-pilgrims and their very young baby. A quiet, organic little farmlet that has an open kitchen and cabin with composting toilets run as a donativo. With just two other guests they offer us the cabin instead of our previous plan of camping, we gratefully accept on behalf of Max and he immediately heads off to sleep. Tom spends an evening chasing chickens and investigating the long grass, dinner is easily made and there’s fresh coffee in the morning. It’s not a bad place to be on a late summers day.
