The next morning we still feel really lucky with our gite choice, at Gite Le Halte we are inundated for breakfast with bread, cakes, madelines and coffee. Everyone is gee’d up.
Off out of Maslacq and it’s very up and down today, we are thankful that the weather is drizzly and cool to start with as if it was hot and sunny, the walking would be tough. Lots of roads but up and down. Not much to stop on the way excepting a little organic cafe where coffee and sandwiches fuel the second half.
Nate has a tough day as his knee is giving him a hard time. We slowly make our way into Naverrenx and find a campsite full of retired English folk enjoying the south of France while all the locals are back at work.
Near the campsite is a Carrefour market which is always like finding a treasure trove of delicious treats. Dinner is a 3 course extravaganza of salads, cheese, crackers and desserts. The Belgian abbey beers are too tempting to resist. Tom burns up his afternoon on the playground, Max and Nate find the rarest gold of all, a pile of English books in the little share library. Everyone wins.
Being in the far west of France and everything is more spaced out and quieter. Theres a a need for a lot more pre-planning to keep food and water supplied through the day. Theres just enough to keep us going through this segment!
