Well we’ve had over a month of blistering hot weather and not a drop of rain has fallen. The ground is hard and dusty, lakes and rivers are low, streams are dry. At 6am this morning it starts pouring down and it doesn’t let up. The tents are soaked. We are soaked. There’s nothing in Mirmont and we have a schedule to keep so walking in the rain it is.

Camino Day 38 – Aire sur l’Adour to Miramont-Sensacq
It’s a bit of a bust today, up the hill out of town and then it’s a drag down flat roads and 8 foot high fields of corn for blocking any views.

Le Presbytere where we have spent the night is really something special. We spent the night camped in the garden, but after a slow breakfast, (the boys almost need to be forcibly removed from a buffet) our hostess Marinette gives us a tour of the incredible building. When we finally get going the ground is flat and easy, not sure if it’s more our fitness or the terrain but it means the days are a little less of a challenge for most of us at least. Tom isn’t as interested at walking as he only wants to walk on tricky little singletrack trails which there are none of today, so I carry him the whole way. Lucky guy.

Cloudy and foggy means it’s nice and cool. Staying at Gite Le Chalet du Bonheur last night means we get a little breakfast of fresh coffee, bread and homemade apricot jam.

Little bit longer today as we plan ahead to get enough kilometres to reach Aire sur l’Adour in a reasonable amount of time. Hot and humid but just rolling through the vineyards mostly. After 7kms we reach Lamothe and a buzzing little snack bar which we gratefully stop at.

More days, more walking. Very similar terrain, mix of roads and off road tracks. Hot as buggery however and with no towns in between the start and finish means theres no water to keep us going. Tricky.

Have to make a stop to visit the goats at the petting zoo again before heading out. Tom really doesn’t want to leave this one but leave we must. The Camino calls.
Camino Day 32 – Lectoure to Le Romieu
Back to road walking again out of Lectoure but then the going is easy. I think we have achieved peak baguette and cheese consumption as it’s wearing a bit thin. Having said that, it’s still completely delicious and it’s not the worst food to fall back on. French cuisine of the highest order.
