It’s one of those good days when we are up and firing on all cylinders early which means we can chew through the kilometers early.
A quick drag back from St Cirq to Bouzies along the tow path is knocked out before breakfast which is a bonus. There’s a little epicerie in Bouzies run by a good guy with good bread and all the stuff you need to get through a day.
Camino Diaries
Camino Day 22 – Cabrerets to St Cirq Lapopie – Cele Valley
We have got a trip planned to the Pech Merle caves just outside Cabarets this morning so we have a slow start at the camp. The caves are on the GR651 so we dont have to head off route too much and waste walking effort. It’s a bit of a burst however up the hill from Cabrerets, beads of sweat were flowing early today.
Camino Day 21 – Marcilhac sur Cele to Cabrerets – Cele Valley
It’s been a tough couple of days but the trail is rewarding enough that it makes it all worthwhile. I’m not sure what the regular GR65 is like but the Cele Valley is genuinely amazing.
Camino Day 20 – Brengues to Marcilhac sur Cele – Cele Valley

Time for us to split from Norman and the standard GR65 path and take the GR651 Cele Valley variant. We say goodbye and head north following the Cele River while Norman and the GR65 head west.
It’s a great choice for us, a real change in scenery as we dip into a steep sided valley and easily follow the river for the day.

After a couple of tricky big days we spend the morning in Figeac as it’s a bigger town than we’ve seen in awhile, so we catch up on some admin and get organised.
We have been walking the last couple of days alongside Norman of Canada who has completed the Camino six times. He’s a great reservoir of knowledge, patient and all round good bloke.

It’s clear as we walk into Livinhac town proper from our rough little campground that we should have pushed a little more and tried one of the gite in town.

Apparently it’s been a long, hot summer with heatwave after heatwave and today meets that standard. A hard climb out of Conques to start the day and we manage the 300m ascent out of town in a reasonable time before the heat really gets up.
