Time is catching up with us, we’ve had a couple of very busy days so it’s time to relax for a bit.
Head down to see Neil in the morning to have a coffee and catch up on the island news. Coffee is topnotch as per always and Tom has taken ownership of paying for it. We slope off down to the beach and let Tom continue his crab mission and let Nate generally poke about. Alissa and I get to enjoy one of our last opportunities to soak up our bit of tropical paradise.
Some new neighbours arrive from Arizona to stay in the holiday house next door. Standard Cook Islands efficiency mean there’s no key and they are locked out. After far too long they are feeling the burn, so I offer them water or a beer which they are very keen on. The airline lost their luggage in transfer at LAX so it’s been a rough day. A beer is the least I could do as it’s Sunday and alcohol sales are banned. I think giving away your last beer to those in need qualifies me for saintly rewards.
A lazy day means we don’t roll out of the house again until lunch and we breeze down to the “Deli-licious Café” for some classic NZ style café food, Alissa and I have a great grilled fish sandwich (not as good as Mooring Café) and the boys go with a classic corn fritters with bacon and sour cream. Roll back to the house via a coconut at Ariki and more lazing around. Dinner at Vili’s Burger Joint so Max can finally achieve his dream of eating the “Cannibal” double cheese, double patty burger. He claims it lives up to every expectation.
We attempt a self-timer family portrait, with predictable ridiculous results. Time for a movie then hit the sack. Last day tomorrow. We’re pre-emptively feeling a bit of that post-holiday low.
